OpenAI will release an Open Source weight language model for the first time since GPT-2 in 2019.
BlockBeats News, on April 1, according to Cointelegraph, OpenAI founder Sam Altman posted that a "new open-source weighted language model" with inference capabilities will be released in the next few months, but first hopes to collect feedback on "how to make it most effective". Open-source weighted language models are models that can be publicly used, downloaded, modified, or deployed, which are not as open as fully open-source models, but are a significant shift from GPT-3 and GPT-4, which are fully closed. OpenAI partially open-sourced the GPT-2 model in February 2019 and completed full open-sourcing in November of the same year. On February 12 of this year, Sam Altman had said that the company planned to launch GPT-4.5 and GPT-5 in the coming weeks or months.
