Vitalik Buterin: The rise of the Application Layer needs good social philosophy support.

Abstract generation in progress

According to Foresight News, Vitalik Buterin pointed out that "the community's self-renewal of Ethereum requires the replacement of generations/talents. And the next generation needs to be rooted in Ethereum's values (e.g. cypherpunk)," Warpcast replied, "I actually think that the growth of the application layer needs to be supported by a good social philosophy. To use an analogy: let's say C++ was developed by a totalitarian racist fascist. Could it be a worse language? Probably not. C++ is generic, and there's not much room for a bad social philosophy to undermine it (or a good social philosophy to improve it). This is not entirely the case with Ethereum Layer-1: people who don't believe in decentralization don't add light clients, FOCIL, or (good formal) account abstractions; People who don't mind wasted energy won't spend five years migrating to PoS...... But in any case, the opcode of the EVM is likely to be about the same. As a result, Ethereum may be 50% generic. About 80% of the application is dedicated. What kind of application you build depends largely on your idea of what the Ethereum DApp (and Ethereum as a whole) will do for the world. Therefore, it becomes essential to have good ideas on this topic." Vitalik cites examples of applications such as Railgun, Farcaster, Polymarket, and Signal, and bad ones, such as Pump.fun, Terra/Luna, and FTX, that differ from developers' beliefs about their goals.
