Formation is a decentralized AI infrastructure positioned as a vertically integrated two-sided marketplace for AI agents and models. It enables AI creators to publish, monetize, and distribute their models and agents, while allowing consumers to discover, deploy, and utilize these capabilities through a unified platform. Its core is composed of microservices including form-state (state management), form-dns (network routing), form-net (WireGuard-secured mesh networking), form-vmm (VM management), and form-pack-manager (packaging), typically deployed via Docker Compose. In practice, creators define and package AI assets via a Formfile, register them through the API, and deploy them onto the Formnet network; consumers then invoke agents by sending ECDSA-signed requests through the form-state gateway (e.g., the /agents/:agent_id/hire endpoint). The platform incorporates built-in billing, access control, and usage tracking, supporting both subscription and pay-per-use models.
