Futures Points are not tradable crypto assets and cannot be transferred like USDT or BTC. They are better understood as platform reward points linked to recent futures activity. Their practical value depends on the campaigns and rewards currently available on Gate.
Gate Futures Points currently use a rolling 15-day mechanism, which means each batch of points expires on the 15th day after the corresponding snapshot date. Users therefore need to understand not only how to earn points, but also how snapshots, valid trading volume, point expiration, and reward redemption work.
Gate Futures Points are a reward-point system for eligible futures users and can be used in selected futures campaigns.
Points can mainly be earned through qualifying futures-related account balances, eligible futures trading volume, and qualified referrals.
Balance Points are calculated using tiered USD-equivalent account balances, with a current base maximum of 4 points per day.
Trading Points currently start at 1 point for $400 in eligible trading volume, with 1 additional point each time trading volume doubles.
Eligible USDT-M perpetuals, BTC-M perpetuals, and qualifying TradFi futures volume may count, while API trading and some other trading activity may be excluded.
Qualified referrals can generate Referral Points, currently capped at 3 points per day.
Each batch of Futures Points remains valid for 15 days and expires automatically afterward.
Futures Points do not represent fixed returns, and reward types, redemption thresholds, and availability may change by campaign.
Gate Futures Points are a points system, also described as basic Futures Points, designed to serve both active traders and long-term users participating in Gate’s futures ecosystem. The system converts certain types of recent futures-related activity, including qualifying balances, eligible trading volume, and referral activity, into reward points.
The points are not directly tied to trading profit or loss. For example, two users may have very different trading outcomes but still earn similar Trading Points if they generate comparable eligible futures trading volume.
Accumulated points can be used in selected Gate Futures Points campaigns. Depending on the campaign, users may be able to accumulate basic futures points through eligible activity and use them to claim token airdrops, redeem Cash Tokens, position experience vouchers, futures trial funds, or access event-style perks. The exact reward types, required points, and available quantities depend on the current campaign.
Gate Futures Points are therefore best understood as a futures-user reward mechanism rather than a digital asset. Instead, the points equate to campaign-specific benefits rather than any fixed cash value in USDT or fiat currency.
Under the current framework, Gate Futures Points are mainly made up of three components: Balance Points, Trading Points, and Referral Points.
Balance Points are linked to the amount of qualifying assets held in futures-related accounts. Eligible balances are converted into their USD-equivalent value at the relevant snapshot time, and the resulting amount determines the number of daily Balance Points.
Trading Points come from qualifying futures trading activity. Eligible USDT-M perpetuals, BTC-M perpetuals, and qualifying TradFi futures volume may be included, and both opening and closing positions can contribute to eligible trading volume.
Referral Points come from qualified new-user referrals. If a successfully referred new user reaches at least 2 current Futures Points, the inviter can receive 1 Referral Point. Each referred user can trigger the reward only once, and the current daily maximum from referrals is 3 points.
Balance Points use a tiered calculation model rather than increasing linearly with every additional dollar held.
The system currently includes qualifying balances such as USDT and BTC in futures accounts, as well as USDx in eligible TradFi accounts. These balances are converted into USD-equivalent value at the daily snapshot and then assigned to the corresponding tier.
The current base structure is:
| Qualifying Futures-Related Balance | Daily Balance Points |
|---|---|
| $100 to < $1,000 | 1 point |
| $1,000 to < $10,000 | 2 points |
| $10,000 to < $100,000 | 3 points |
| $100,000 and above | 4 points |
For example, if a user has $5,000 in qualifying assets at the snapshot time, they would receive 2 Balance Points for that day. If the qualifying balance is $20,000, the user would receive 3 points.
Because the system is tiered, increasing a balance within the same range does not increase the number of daily points. Moving from $2,000 to $8,000, for instance, still leaves the user within the same tier and therefore still results in 2 Balance Points per day.
Trading Points are primarily based on a user’s eligible daily futures trading volume.
Under the current base rule, $400 in eligible trading volume corresponds to 1 point, and each doubling of trading volume adds 1 additional point. The relationship is therefore progressive rather than linear.
For reference:
| Daily Eligible Trading Volume | Reference Trading Points |
|---|---|
| $400 | 1 point |
| $800 | 2 points |
| $1,600 | 3 points |
| $3,200 | 4 points |
| $6,400 | 5 points |
| $12,800 | 6 points |
The key term here is “eligible trading volume.” Qualifying USDT-M perpetual and BTC-M perpetual trading volume may count, including both opening and closing positions, while API-generated trading volume and certain non-qualifying trading pairs may be excluded.
TradFi futures volume may also be subject to a separate conversion ratio. For example, if the applicable ratio is 20%, then 10,000 USDx in TradFi futures trading volume may be converted into 2,000 USDT-equivalent eligible volume for the purpose of calculating points. The applicable ratio can change and should be checked against the current rules.
In addition to balance and trading activity, eligible referrals can also generate Futures Points.
Under the current rule, if a user successfully refers a new user and that new user reaches at least 2 current Futures Points, the inviter can receive 1 Referral Point. Each referred user can contribute to this referral reward only once.
Referral Points currently have a daily cap of 3 points per user.
For example, if five new users join through one referral link on the same day and three of them meet the required point threshold, the inviter can receive 3 points. If all five qualify, the daily cap still limits the reward to 3 points.
This means a referral alone does not automatically generate points. The referred user must also meet the required Futures Points condition.
Gate Futures Points are not a permanent lifetime total. They use a rolling 15-day calculation model.
A simplified way to understand the current balance is:
Current valid points = Balance Points earned in the past 15 days + Trading Points earned in the past 15 days + Referral Points earned in the past 15 days − valid points already spent
Expired points are no longer included in the user’s current valid balance.
For example, suppose a user earns 20 Balance Points, 30 Trading Points, and 5 Referral Points over the past 15 days, while spending 10 points on rewards. If all of those points are still within their validity period, the remaining valid balance would be 45 points.
This rolling model is designed to reflect recent futures activity rather than allow points to accumulate indefinitely.
Each batch of Gate Futures Points is currently valid for 15 days.
Points automatically expire on the 15th day after the corresponding snapshot date. Users can review their recent point history to see how many points were earned and which ones are approaching expiration.
When points are used in an eligible campaign, the system prioritizes older valid points first. This helps reduce the chance that earlier points expire while newer points are used first.
However, unused points will still expire automatically once their validity period ends. Users planning to participate in a reward campaign may therefore want to check both their total valid balance and upcoming expiration dates.
Gate Futures Points currently follow a fixed daily calculation cycle.
The daily snapshot is taken at 07:59:59 (UTC+8). Qualifying futures-related asset values are converted into their USD-equivalent value based on market prices around 08:00 (UTC+8), and point data is generally updated before 12:00 (UTC+8) on the same day.
The points calculation period does not fully match a standard calendar day. A trade completed in the early morning may still fall into the previous points calculation cycle depending on when it occurred relative to the daily cutoff.
If a trade does not appear in the expected day’s points record, users should first check whether it was completed before or after the daily calculation boundary and allow time for the day’s data update to finish.
Gate Futures Points are mainly used to participate in futures-related points campaigns and redeem available benefits.
Depending on the campaign, rewards may include Cash Tokens, position experience vouchers, futures trial funds, or other benefits. Reward types, point requirements, and available quantities can change over time, so there is no fixed rule such as “1 point = 1 USDT.”
When a user actively joins a campaign that requires point consumption or redeems a reward, the corresponding points are deducted from the valid balance, with older points used first.
Having enough points also does not necessarily guarantee a reward. Some campaigns have limited quantities and may operate on a first-come, first-served basis. If a reward has already been fully claimed, users may need to wait for a future campaign even if they still have enough points.
The practical value of Futures Points therefore depends on the rewards and campaigns currently available rather than on any fixed cash value of the points themselves.
Not every Gate account and not every futures trade automatically qualifies for Futures Points.
Under the current rules, market makers, corporate users, and institutional users are not eligible for the Futures Points program, and Gate may restrict or prohibit some services for users in restricted regions under its rules. Eligible main accounts may participate, while sub-accounts generally cannot join independently, and certain sub-account activity may not count toward point calculations.
API-generated trading volume is also currently excluded from eligible trading volume, and some stablecoin trading pairs or other non-qualifying products may not generate Trading Points.
TradFi futures may use a conversion ratio instead of counting the entire notional trading volume directly. As a result, the total trading volume shown in an account may differ from the eligible volume used in the points system.
If a user has completed futures trades but does not see an increase in points, it may be useful to check the account type, trading channel, product eligibility, and whether the latest daily point update has been completed.
For users who already use Gate futures as part of their normal trading activity, there are three main ways to increase points: maintain higher qualifying futures-related account balances, generate more eligible trading volume, and refer qualified new users.
Because Balance Points use a tiered model, moving within the same balance range does not increase the daily points earned. Only crossing into a higher tier changes the Balance Points allocation.
Trading Points increase as eligible trading volume grows, but this does not mean users should trade more frequently or use more leverage simply to earn points. Trading fees, funding costs, market volatility, and liquidation risk can easily outweigh the value of any point-based rewards.
A more appropriate approach is to treat Futures Points as an additional benefit of normal futures activity rather than as a reason to change an existing trading plan or risk-management strategy.
Gate Futures Points and traditional trading fee rebates use different mechanisms.
Fee rebates are usually tied directly to the trading fees a user pays and return a defined portion of those costs. Futures Points, by contrast, are calculated from qualifying balances, eligible trading volume, and referral activity. The points themselves are not cash and do not have a fixed market value.
Futures Points also have a 15-day validity period and generally need to be actively used in eligible campaigns before they can be converted into a specific reward or benefit.
In simple terms, fee rebates are directly connected to trading costs, while Gate Futures Points are a reward and engagement system based on recent futures participation.
The first factor is expiration. Each batch of Futures Points is currently valid for only 15 days, so users who do not check their points regularly may see older points expire before they are used.
Second, not all trading volume shown in an account counts as eligible volume. API trading, certain non-qualifying pairs, and TradFi futures subject to conversion ratios can all create differences between total account volume and the volume recognized by the points system.
Third, Futures Points should not be treated as fixed returns. Rewards, required points, available quantities, and campaign rules can change, while some rewards may also be limited and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Most importantly, Futures Points are only an additional benefit. Perpetual futures and other derivatives can involve leverage, liquidation risk, funding costs, and significant market volatility. Users should not take on more risk simply to earn more points. The 15-day rolling validity period is one of the most important features to understand. Futures Points are not permanent assets and expire automatically, while older valid points are generally consumed first when a user redeems a reward.
For users who already participate in Gate futures, Futures Points can provide an additional layer of benefits. However, points should not be a reason to increase leverage or overtrade. Futures decisions should remain based on market judgment and appropriate risk management.

Yes. Each batch of Gate Futures Points is currently valid for 15 days and expires automatically after that period.
Under the current base rule, $400 in eligible trading volume corresponds to 1 point. Each time eligible trading volume doubles, 1 additional point is added, so $800 corresponds to 2 points and $1,600 to 3 points.
Gate Futures Points do not have a fixed USDT conversion rate. They can be used in eligible points campaigns for rewards such as Cash Tokens, trial funds, or other benefits, depending on what is currently available.
Possible reasons include using API trading, trading a product or pair that does not qualify, using an ineligible account type, or checking before the latest daily points update has been completed.
