Just use Phantom for decentralized wallets, it's not that complicated.

Wallet selection depends on your needs. I think the Magic Eden wallet is pretty good; for beginners, it's frictionless... However, the lack of KYC is indeed a bottleneck now, as most neobanks have started requiring it.
