Germany's Bitcoin Seizure Program Exposed: Nearly 5 billion dollars in BTC remain inactive

The highly publicized Bitcoin seizure campaign by Germany is under new scrutiny after blockchain analysts revealed that nearly 5 billion dollars in BTC have remained untouched. The finding raises intrigue in the crypto community as questions arise about whether the funds are lost, frozen, or simply held in reserve.

Why Coins Remain Intact

In a post on X, influential analyst Crypto Patel, also associated with CoinMarketCap, highlighted that the German crackdown on Bitcoin has encountered a significant hurdle. The blockchain analysis firm Arkham has revealed a massive treasure of intact BTC linked to the now-defunct hacking site Movie2K, suggesting that the seizure efforts by German authorities may have hit a wall.

According to the report, approximately 45,000 BTC, valued at nearly 5 billion dollars, have been inactive in more than 100 wallets since 2019. It is believed that these coins are still under the control of the original operators of the site.

In early 2024, German authorities successfully seized nearly 50,000 BTC, which were subsequently liquidated for approximately $2.9 billion. However, despite that high-profile move, this new revelation highlights that a significant portion of Movie2K's fortune remains out of reach.

I am surprised by the incompetence of the German authorities. So much bragging about their tracking capabilities and now it turns out they cannot access most of the loot. What is the point of boasting about seizures if you let the big prize slip away?

Bitcoin continues to gain mainstream adoption among prominent figures, institutions, and countries. Cryptocurrency expert Hashley Giles explained that Bitcoin is an ideal asset for the financial balances of profitable companies of all sizes and sectors.

Accounting is also straightforward when companies focus on accumulating rather than trading, removing the complexity of constant volatility.
