Ripple's Chief Technology Officer (CTO) David Schwartz recently shared updates on his latest project on the XRP Ledger (XRPL). He stated that the project is almost ready to enter the production phase and elaborated on its details.
On social media, Schwartz mentioned that this new project aims to upgrade XRPL and is currently progressing smoothly. He noted that while there were some network delays during the process, the impact was limited and only involved a few originally poor connection points. Additionally, he mentioned that the slight decrease in network bandwidth seems to be merely a failure of the monitoring system and has not been reflected in the monitoring of the switch ports. Therefore, he believes the project is close to the production stage.
When asked about the specific details of the project, Schwartz explained that he is running a hub server that will soon help important nodes on the XRPL connect more reliably with each other. He added that it is particularly exciting for him because he hasn't managed production infrastructure for a while. Schwartz had previously mentioned why he cares about running this XRPL infrastructure; he believes what the network needs most is a high-quality hub with slots reserved for UNL validators, other hubs, and service application servers. He emphasized that this is his personal project and not Ripple's corporate plan.
Regarding the details of this hub server, Schwartz revealed that it uses a powerful hardware configuration, including an AMD 9950X CPU, 256GB RAM, a 2TB SATA SSD boot disk, 2x2TB NVME SSDs (software RAID 0) for NuDB, and an unthrottled 10GB link. The server will run Ubuntu LTE and be configured within a data center in New York City. He plans to use this server as a single-node production service to ensure maximum uptime and reliability. However, he also cautioned that this hub should not become a sole dependency for any significant XRPL server, and the data collected will be used to analyze network behavior and performance. He emphasized that destructive testing will not be conducted unless special circumstances arise.
Although this hub server is primarily reserved for important XRPL nodes, Schwartz mentioned that the remaining slots will be opened to the public on a best-effort basis. He added that only the reserved slots will be limited to important nodes.
In addition to Schwartz's project, the XRPL validator Vet has also proposed a centralized liquidity proposal for automated market makers (AMM), aimed at enhancing the sophistication and capital efficiency of AMMs, allowing liquidity providers to specify the funding supply range.
