In November 2025, the Layer 2 track became lively again. Most projects are still choosing between "Decentralization" and "High Performance," but one competitor has directly submitted their answer sheet – I choose both.
This player is a zkEVM solution built from scratch by the Consensys team. As a Type-4 level ZK Rollup, its biggest feature is its extremely high compatibility with the Ethereum mainnet. How high? It is 100% equivalent at the bytecode level, fully supporting even precompiled instructions like CREATE2.
What does this mean? Smart contracts running on the Ethereum mainnet can be directly used when copied over. No need to change the code, no need for re-auditing, and no need to switch development tools. Currently, there are more than 680 Ethereum native applications running on it, of which 92% were migrated directly with zero modifications. The complete set of Uniswap V4 contracts, Lido V2, complete instances of Aave V3, and all markets of Pendle have all been successfully deployed with one click.
What about the performance? The latest proof system has reduced the single round proof time to 1.7 seconds. With parallel circuit optimization, the measured peak TPS can reach 13200, and the average block time is 1.3 seconds. This number far exceeds the processing capacity of the Ethereum mainnet.
More importantly, these performance improvements do not sacrifice Decentralization and security. It inherits the security assurances of the Ethereum mainnet while maintaining a complete developer experience. For users, Gas fees are significantly reduced, transaction speeds are noticeably faster, yet the user interface is almost indistinguishable from the mainnet.
The choice of technology route has never been an either-or situation. While the industry is still debating trade-offs, some teams have already proven with actual data that compatibility, performance, Decentralization, and developer experience can all be achieved simultaneously.
