Netflix was flooded with Indian content this week, with several movies topping the charts.
Indian movies have once again made a impressive showing on Netflix’s global charts. As of the week ending November 16, five Indian titles simultaneously ranked in Netflix’s global top 10 non-English content, which is quite a formidable lineup.
New Releases with Bright Data
The main titles on the list include: Hindi films “Baramulla,” “Jolly LLB 3,” “Ek Chatur Naar,” Tamil film “Dude,” and the internationally acclaimed web series “Delhi Crime” Season 3. Among them, “Baramulla” performed the best — although it was only released in its second week, it soared to the No. 2 spot among global non-English films, just behind Danish film “Mango.” Directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale and starring Manav Kaul, it tells the story of a police investigator dispatched to Kashmir to solve a case.
“Baramulla” generated 4.3 million streams and 8.6 million hours of watch time worldwide. Interestingly, it entered the top charts in 16 countries. In India, this week, it was also one of the most-watched films on any platform, with 3 million streams.
Theatrical to Streaming, “Jolly LLB 3” Quickly Rises
“Jolly LLB 3” is another hit this week. This courtroom comedy, written and directed by Subhash Kapoor and starring Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi, reached the top 4 among global non-English films just three days after release, with 2.7 million streams and 7 million hours of watch time. Its performance in India was also strong — ranking fourth on any platform that week with 2.2 million streams. The film remains one of the most popular cross-language movies in all of India and Pakistan.
“Jolly LLB 3” continues the series’ popularity, featuring the cast from the previous films—Arshad Warsi, Saurabh Shukla, Boman Irani, and Amrita Rao—along with additions like Akshay Kumar and Huma Qureshi from the second installment.
Tamil Film “Dude” Secures Fifth Place
Tamil film “Dude” also made a quick entry within three days. Directed by Keerthiswaran and starring Mamitha Baiju and Pradeep Ranganathan, this romantic comedy garnered 2.4 million streams and 5.4 million hours of watch time, ranking in the global top 5 for non-English films. It appeared on film charts in 10 countries worldwide.
Other Top Performers Remain Steady
“Ek Chatur Naar,” a black comedy thriller directed by Umesh Shukla, achieved 2 million streams and 4.3 million hours of watch time, ranking seventh among global non-English films. It stars Divya Khosla Kumar and Neil Nitin Mukesh.
“Delhi Crime” Season 3 continued the series’ momentum. Directed by Tanuj Chopra, this crime web series reached the top 9 among global non-English web series within a week of release, with Shefali Shah reprising her role as DCP Vartika Chaturvedi. Its 2.3 million streams and 11.1 million hours of watch time are solid figures. In India, it was the second most popular fictional web series that week, behind only “Maharani 4” starring Huma Qureshi.
Key Point: Kannada Films Also Making Strides
Although no Kannada films entered the global top 10 this week, Rishab Shetty’s Kannada blockbuster “Kantara Chapter 1” continues to maintain the popularity of Indian content, consistently topping the most-watched movies on any Indian platform. While available on Prime Video, its 3.3 million streams demonstrate the appeal of regional Indian cinema.
Overall, this week, Netflix was thoroughly dominated by Indian content. From Kannada to Hindi to Tamil, films in various languages showcased their global competitiveness, which is indeed an encouraging sign for Indian content creators.
