The Problem Nobody Wanted to Solve
I’ve watched founders get trapped in the same painful loop dozens of times. A venture capitalist asks an innocent question—“What if your churn drops by 2%?”—and suddenly the meeting stalls. The founder’s answer lives somewhere buried in a 47-tab Excel nightmare. Three hours of formula-hunting. Broken references. Circular errors that crash the entire model.
The pattern was unmistakable: founders were drowning in spreadsheets when they should have been thinking about growth.
So I decided to test whether the hot new trend of vibe coding—using AI to rapidly prototype—could solve this. I’m not a modern programmer (my last serious coding was two decades ago), but I’m comfortable admitting what I don’t know and learning fast.

The first lessons came fast and expensive. When I fed the AI multiple instructions simultaneously—“Add dark mode,” “Fix the bug,” “Improve performance”—it didn’t process them sequentially. Instead, it froze, confused, then created a Frankenstein version that accomplished none of the three tasks. I’d pick Python instead of TypeScript. I’d set a hard $200 credit budget. I’d build the manual process first before automating anything. I’d skip the night mode that nobody requested, the perfect UI that nobody cared about, and the integration promises that couldn’t be kept.
Most importantly, I’d understand this truth from day one: talking to potential customers isn’t a step toward building—it’s the foundation of building.
The Remaining Path
The next phase isn’t about vibe coding everything at once. It’s about validation through incremental release.
Phase 1 (weeks 5-8): Manual financial model builder + AI advisor for validating assumptions + basic scenario planning + export functionality. Goal: 10 paying customers.
Phase 2 (weeks 9-24): If validation works, hire experienced fintech developers to build real integrations, enterprise security, scaling infrastructure. Budget: $50K-100K.
The mission remains unchanged: eliminate the 47-tab Excel financial model. Every founder deserves real-time dashboards, AI explanations of numbers, scenario planning in seconds, investor-ready exports instantly.
The journey continues. But this time, with actual founders guiding the direction rather than my assumptions driving the product.
