Important signals emerged at the latest developer conference for Ethereum execution layer.
The core issue is that the EIP-7843 (slot opcode) proposal is stuck. Why? Because it involves coordination between the consensus layer and execution layer, requiring changes on both sides, which extends the timeline. As a result, progress on BALs Devnet-2 has been postponed.
On the other hand, the news is not very optimistic — seven EIPs proposed for inclusion in the Glamsterdam upgrade were directly rejected. It seems the ecosystem is still aligning on the next direction.
However, EIP-7954 has attracted attention. Its main change is to increase the smart contract size limit from 24KB to 32KB. Although it appears to be just a numerical change, it is significant for projects aiming to deploy more complex business logic. This proposal is now under serious consideration.
Overall, Ethereum continues to experiment with optimizing execution efficiency and network flexibility. Every technical adjustment ultimately impacts the ecosystem's applications and developers' experience.
