A few days ago, I saw someone in the group asking why all their ten or so altcoins are completely stagnant. I opened their holdings list and took a quick look—ranging from AI concepts to metaverse to certain blockchain ecosystems, with all kinds of labels, but I’ve never heard of any of them. Actually, I’m very familiar with this situation—because I used to make the same foolish mistakes.

**The crypto world is no longer the same as it was ten years ago**

Think about it: in 2013, there were only about 500 coins in the entire market. Back then, you could basically buy anything blindly and still make a profit. By 2017, there were over 3,000, and you could still catch some of the wave. But by 2021, the crypto ecosystem had evolved into a monster with 3.1 million tokens. And now, in 2025? Official data points to 70 million tokens—more than the number of mosquitoes.

Let’s also look at the current total market cap—3.22 trillion yuan. It sounds like an astronomical number, but the distribution is very realistic: Bitcoin alone accounts for 60% of the market cap, with Ethereum taking a big chunk. The remaining tiny fragments have to be divided among tens of millions of projects—how would you split it?

**What’s even more heartbreaking is that many project teams have forgotten their own tokens**

I know a small team that made a blockchain game three years ago, and recently they found out that there are still dozens of thousands of tokens sitting in their wallets—completely stunned—"This thing is still alive?" That’s reality: the fate of most altcoins was sealed the moment they were born.

**Purely a mathematical problem**

In the vast ocean of tens of millions of tokens, the chance of picking one that will truly rise is even lower than finding true love in a special place. 99% of tokens will eventually go to zero—that’s not a curse, but probability theory. Do you think air coins are worthless? At least air can be freely breathed; you don’t have to throw money at it.

**So, what should you do?**

Stop being a "token collector." Your wallet isn’t an exhibition hall or a trash dump—don’t stuff every coin into it. Instead of holding a bunch of tokens you don’t even understand, focus your energy on the real leaders.

During a bull market cycle, capital always flows to the top of the pyramid. The thirty or fifty altcoins you hold will most likely just watch Bitcoin and Ethereum hit new highs while your holdings remain unchanged. And in the next bear market? They’ll quietly disappear from your wallet.

Here’s a cold fact: the bull market isn’t here to save all coins; it’s here to eliminate the altcoin ecosystem. Don’t mistake luck for strength, don’t dress gambling up as investment. Focus on quality, not quantity. Your account capacity is limited—every position should be worth it.

Now, open your holdings list and review those tokens you can’t even name. Isn’t it time for a big cleanup? The market always rewards focus and punishes scatterbrain.

From the growth curve of the computing power network, the ecosystem of 70 million tokens has already completely failed. Retail investors are still speculating on altcoins, while miners have long since settled their accounts—BTC production is fixed, and the dispersion of total market value determines the ROI cycle, which is not interesting. Basically, it's a matter of choice; focus determines the profit curve. Having fifty coins per person versus five coins per person results in outcomes that are simply not on the same level in the next cycle.

Haha, you're so right. I should have cleared out those trash coins long ago. Lying dormant for three and a half years without any movement really made my blood pressure soar. I do regret how impulsively I bought them back then. But on the other hand, even if the probability is low, it's not impossible, right? Haha. Before clearing out, I still want to take one last gamble, trying to pick out that one from hundreds of millions.

Oh no, that was so heartbreaking. My bunch of worthless coins instantly turned into paper scraps.

Starting the old routine of chasing air coins again, this time the cleanup is quite ruthless. Retail investors will never learn; piling into shanzhai coins and still hoping for a turnaround. The crypto world has taken a turn; now it's all about probabilistic gambling. I deeply understand... I used to be reckless like this back in the day.
