After Ethereum supporters presented the fact that Ethereum has 134 permissioned validation nodes as evidence of centralization, the debate over XRP decentralization has reignited. Ripple's former CTO David Schwartz reposted a 2023 explanatory article to counter this, stating that the validation nodes on the XRP ledger are primarily responsible for coordinating double-spend resolution and cannot unilaterally enforce changes or upgrades.
