According to the latest declassified email documents from the U.S. Department of Justice, the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein invested $3 million in Coinbase in 2014, corresponding to a valuation of about $400 million for the company. The email shows that Coinbase co-founder Fred Ehrsam was aware of and participated in the relevant communication. The investment was matched by Brock Pierce and his venture capital firm Blockchain Capital, with funds coming from IGO Company LLC, an entity controlled by Epstein. The filing also shows that Epstein sold back half of his stake in Coinbase to Blockchain Capital in 2018, making a profit of about $15 million; The whereabouts of the remaining shares were not disclosed.
