February 3rd, China International Capital Corporation (CICC) released a research report stating that the Spring Festival box office is an important opening period, often laying the foundation for the year’s overall box office development and having the potential to catalyze the box office performance of individual films.

According to Maoyan Professional Edition, as of now, seven domestic films have announced their release schedules for the 2026 Spring Festival: “Flying Past Life 3,” “Silent Alarm,” “The Dagger: Winds Rise in the Desert,” “Bears Out and Bears Every Year,” “River of Stars,” “Panda Project: Tribal Adventure,” and “Return: Wolf Pack.”

CICC believes that the release schedule for domestic films during the 2026 Spring Festival is relatively late, and the box office during this period may be affected by the high baseline set by “Nezha 2” in 2025. Additionally, due to the delay of key releases for imported films “Zootopia 2” and “Avatar 3” into the 2026 Spring Festival schedule, domestic filmmakers might be concerned about market share being squeezed, leading to more cautious scheduling and conservative promotional strategies. Overall, current audience demand shows a trend of concentration among top-tier films, and there is still a possibility of dark horse box office hits emerging when market expectations are low.
