(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia’s Defense Ministry announced on Saturday that its air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed a drone east of the capital, Riyadh. Authorities confirmed that the unmanned aerial vehicle was neutralized before it could reach any of its intended targets, preventing potential damage.

Earlier in the day, Saudi officials reported that a ballistic missile, reportedly launched toward Prince Sultan Air Base in Al-Kharj Province, southeast of Riyadh, fell in an uninhabited area. The Saudi Press Agency cited a Defense Ministry spokesperson stating that the missile did not cause any casualties or structural damage.

These developments come amid heightened regional tensions, with Saudi Arabia’s air defenses remaining on high alert to respond to threats targeting its territory and critical infrastructure. Authorities have reiterated their readiness to safeguard national security while monitoring the situation closely.
