(MENAFN) Google announced Thursday the opening of a major artificial intelligence hub in Berlin, aiming to bolster Germany’s digital infrastructure and support its growing AI ecosystem.

The facility, located in the historic Mitte district at the Museumsinsel Forum, houses teams from Google DeepMind, Google Research, and Google Cloud. It also includes an “AI demo space” to showcase the latest AI technologies and applications.

German Digital Affairs Minister Karsten Wildberger said the investment highlights Germany’s appeal as a high-tech destination, benefiting startups, SMEs, and industrial players. Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner added that the hub reflects confidence in Berlin’s long-term economic and technological prospects.

Philipp Justus, Google’s Central Europe President, described the hub as a platform for collaboration and dialogue to strengthen Germany’s role in the global AI race.

The opening coincided with academic partnerships with the Technical University of Munich and Helmholtz Munich to develop responsible AI applications in medicine and single-cell research.

A study commissioned by Google from the German Economic Institute projects that widespread adoption of generative AI could generate €440 billion ($510 billion) in additional annual gross value added for Germany by 2034.
