Amidst tense Middle East tensions, foreign media: Macron will visit Cyprus

According to Agence France-Presse, French President Macron’s office stated on the 8th that Macron will visit Cyprus on the 9th. The report also said that Macron is expected to meet with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to demonstrate “unity” and to outline measures to “strengthen security around Cyprus and in the Eastern Mediterranean.” AFP noted that the context of this visit is the military actions launched by the United States and Israel against Iran, leading to conflicts in the Middle East. There are reports that Cyprus was recently attacked by drones, prompting Macron to order the deployment of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle to the Mediterranean. (Global Times)
