Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) confirmed the availability of goods and products across retail outlets in Qatar and called for following official guidelines and purchasing according to actual needs to promote responsible consumption.
In a post on its X platform, the Ministry confirmed the continued availability of goods and products across various retail outlets in the State of Qatar. It ensured that the consumer needs are met sufficiently and regularly and called for adherence to official guidelines, purchasing according to actual need, and promoting a culture of responsible consumption.
It urged to obtain information from official channels by relying only on official sources and avoid rumors that may lead to unnecessary stockpiling. It added that adhered to the instructions issued by official authorities.
The post further said,“Purchase according to your family’s needs for a reasonable period; avoid buying large quantities out of concern or panic; identify essential goods such as food items, necessary medications and children’s supplies; stick to your list to avoid random or unnecessary purchases.”

“Avoid concentrating your purchases at a single store and shop at alternative outlets, when available to reduce crowding and keep goods accessible,” it added.
Recently, MoCI emphasised to all commercial establishments and retail outlets the importance of not adjusting the prices of goods or services without obtaining prior approval from the Ministry in order to avoid legal accountability and the prescribed penalities.
The Ministry issued a warning regarding adjusting the prices of goods or services without prior official approval. This was considered a legal violation and may result in a financial penalty reaching up to QR1,000,000.
In an infographic it outlined a range of applicable penalties for businesses found in breach of these regulations, which include - imprisonment from one month to a year, temporary closure of the establishment for up to one month, and the seizure and confiscation of goods involved. Also, double penalties for repeated violations.
In a move to protect consumer rights and maintain market stability, the Ministry emphasised that any price modifications must strictly adhere to the provisions of Law No.(8)of 2008 on Consumer Protection and Law No.(12) of 1972 on Mandatory Pricing and Profit Determination and its amendments.
Before adjusting any price, establishments must obtain prior approval from the Ministry, register all prices electronically, report any changes to registered information, and not tamper with paper or electronic documents related to prices.
Earlier, MoCI urged consumers in Qatar to report any unjustified price increases in markets to help authorities maintain fair pricing and protect consumer rights.
The Ministry said it continues to monitor markets and conduct inspection campaigns across retail outlets to ensure traders comply with pricing regulations and consumer protection laws.
These inspections aim to prevent commercial violations, monopolistic practices and unjustified price hikes, particularly during periods of high demand. It stressed that oversight efforts are ongoing to maintain a fair commercial environment and market stability, while ensuring that essential goods remain available at reasonable prices.
