When asked about U.S. President Trump’s statement that he would cancel his visit to Beijing if China does not assist with escorting ships through the Strait of Hormuz, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said that top-level diplomacy plays an irreplaceable strategic role in China-U.S. relations, and both sides are maintaining communication regarding Trump’s visit to China.

Lin Jian also stated that the recent tensions in the waters near the Strait of Hormuz have impacted international cargo and energy trade routes, disrupting regional and global peace and stability. China once again calls on all parties to immediately cease military actions, avoid further escalation of tensions, and prevent regional instability from causing greater impacts on global economic development.
