Caixin News The US-Iran war is affecting Qatar’s energy sector. As Qatar Energy halts LNG production, helium—which is closely related to the semiconductor industry—also ceases production. The shutdown of Qatar Energy has led to a roughly 30% reduction in global helium supply, causing price fluctuations and impacting semiconductor manufacturing costs.

On March 2, Qatar Energy announced that due to military attacks on its facilities in Ras Laffan Industrial City and Mesaieed Industrial City, the company has stopped producing LNG and related products. (See Caixin report “Operational Facilities Attacked, Storage Tanks Filling Up, Middle Eastern Oil Fields Gradually Shut Down”). On March 3, the company further announced it would suspend production of some downstream products, including urea, polymers, methanol, and aluminum.
