IMF: The Federal Reserve has limited room to cut interest rates in 2026; the likelihood of rate cuts in the coming year is low.
ME News Report, April 2 (UTC+8), the International Monetary Fund stated that although U.S. inflation is expected to fall back to the Federal Reserve’s 2% target in the first half of next year, policymakers have almost no room to cut interest rates this year. IMF staff anticipate only one rate cut opportunity by the end of 2026. The IMF Executive Director pointed out that considering the rise in energy prices and the transmission effects of core inflation, there will be limited room for rate cuts in 2026, which may further delay the achievement of inflation targets.
