On April 1, 2026, the Intermediate People’s Court of Xing’an League in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region publicly delivered its first-instance judgment in the case of Kou Wei, the former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and former General Manager of China Datang Group Co., Ltd., charging him with accepting bribes, accepting bribes through the use of influence, embezzlement, and abuse of power by personnel of state-owned enterprises.

Kou Wei was sentenced to death for accepting bribes, with a two-year suspension for execution; he was also sentenced to lifelong deprivation of political rights and confiscation of all his personal property.
He was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment for embezzlement, and was ordered to pay a fine of RMB 3,000,000.
He was sentenced to 8 years’ imprisonment for accepting bribes through the use of influence, and was ordered to pay a fine of RMB 1,000,000.
He was sentenced to 4 years’ imprisonment for abuse of power by personnel of state-owned enterprises.

The court decided to impose the death penalty with a two-year suspension for execution, and to order lifelong deprivation of political rights and confiscation of all his personal property.

The proceeds from Kou Wei’s acceptance of bribes and acceptance of bribes through the use of influence that are already identified in the case, as well as the related income generated therefrom, shall be turned over to the state treasury according to law; any shortfall shall be further recovered.
