Over 67k software engineering job openings worldwide, reaching a three-year high
ME News Report, April 6 (UTC+8), the demand for software engineering positions in 2026 has significantly rebounded, contradicting the popular view that AI will replace engineering jobs. TrueUp data shows that there are currently over 67k software engineering vacancies worldwide, reaching a three-year high, nearly doubling the number of positions compared to the low point in mid-2023. Since the beginning of this year, the number of open positions has increased by about 30%. Despite rapid advancements in AI technology, tech companies still have strong demand for software engineers and AI-related roles. TrueUp founder Amit Taylor stated, “The notion that ‘AI will replace engineers’ is not reflected in hiring data; companies still have a strong demand for top engineers.” However, as AI gradually penetrates the economic sector, it may compress some jobs in the future or make outstanding engineers more valuable, leading to increased competition among companies.
