On October 18, Decrypt reported that stablecoin giant Tether announced this week a donation of $250,000 to the Bitcoin developer support organization OpenSats, but this move was immediately met with public skepticism from Twitter co-founder and Block (formerly Square) CEO Jack Dorsey. After Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino posted the donation announcement on X, Dorsey briefly responded, “Why only $250,000?” Tether's profit reached $13 billion last year and is seeking to raise funds at a valuation of $500 billion. In contrast, Dorsey revealed that he has donated over $21 million to OpenSats through the Start Small fund and has long supported decentralization and open source Bitcoin development.
