PANews reported on January 29 that according to Fox News reporter Chad Pergram, the White House is negotiating with Senate Democrats and Republicans on a compromise on the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) budget bill. However, even if the Senate separates the DHS budget from six spending bills and approves the other five, it could still lead to a 78% government shutdown this Saturday. There is a difference between the Senate and the House version, and the House needs to readjust the bill and deal with the DHS budget separately, but the House is not in session this week and cannot act quickly. In addition, the controversy over ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) has exacerbated bipartisan differences. Senate Democrats have criticized ICE’s approach to law enforcement and called for reforms to ease public concerns about law enforcement chaos.
