PANews, December 5—According to Ars Technica, the US Department of Justice has indicted two contractor brothers, Muneeb Akhter and Sohaib Akhter, for breaking into and deleting 96 government databases—including DHS investigations and FOIA records—just five minutes after being fired, using accounts that had not yet been revoked. The indictment states that Sohaib changed permissions and executed the deletions, while Muneeb subsequently asked AI, “how to clear SQL Server and Windows Server 2012 logs,” indicating an attempt to cover their tracks. The two had previously been convicted for hacking the State Department. After the incident, they discussed removing evidence from their home and reinstalling company laptop systems, but were ultimately arrested.
