Google's quantum team: Quantum resources required to crack RSA encryption reduced by 20 times.

According to Gate News bot and Decrypt, Google’s quantum team has released the latest research findings, stating that the quantum computing resources required to crack the RSA encryption system have decreased by 20 times compared to previous estimates.

Researcher Craig Gidney stated that compared to the estimate in 2019 that required 20 million “noisy qubits” to factor a 2048-bit RSA number in 8 hours, with algorithm optimization and error correction improvements, it now only requires less than 1 million qubits and one week to perform the same computation.

This study involves the RSA encryption system, while the elliptical curve encryption (ECC) used by Bitcoin has a similar mathematical structure to RSA. The quantum computing breakthrough in RSA encryption is directly related to the security of ECC.
