The crypto community was excited this week when an online news site mistakenly reported that McDonald's McRib was returning, causing the "crypto bros" to link this event to the price of Bitcoin (BTC).
Analyst Jack McCordic, nicknamed "internbrah" on X(, once suggested that every time McRib appears in the US or the UK, the price of BTC could double. According to his chart, the launches of McRib in the US in 2020, 2023, and in the UK in 2024 saw BTC prices increase by 237%, 71%, and 58% respectively in the following months.
However, McCordic overlooks several other McRib instances: launched in the US in November 2021, BTC dropped 74%; in October 2022, it decreased by 23% in one week; in December 2024, it fell by 20% in 5 months.
The recent mix-up originated from a Dexerto article stating that McRib would return to the UK on October 16, but it was later deleted, and McDonald's UK confirmed that there is no such event.
Nonetheless, BTC has still increased by 13% over the past 7 days, proving that cryptocurrency does not need McRib to "heat up".
