The EU plans to impose sanctions on the fake flags used by Russia's "shadow fleet".

On October 7, Jin10 reported that the European Union has proposed restrictions on three companies that provided false flags for sanctioned oil tankers. Documents show that these entities provided false Aruba, Curacao, and Saint Martin flags to at least eight sanctioned vessels. These three regions do not appear in the so-called Paris official flag registry, meaning they are not actually providing the relevant services. The Netherlands issued a notice to the International Maritime Organization in May, warning that companies were providing “false certificates” in the name of Saint Martin. These proposed measures are part of the EU's latest round of sanctions, which are currently being negotiated by member states.
