Block's payment platform Square will officially launch an integrated Bitcoin solution starting November 10, 2025, utilizing Bitcoin's Lightning Network to allow businesses to accept, hold, and convert Bitcoin directly from their POS systems, with no fees until 2027, after which a uniform fee of 1% will be charged.
Consumers can make payments simply by scanning a QR code, without the need for additional hardware. The wallet is integrated so that merchants can manage BTC (buying, selling, holding, withdrawing) directly on the Square Dashboard, reducing technical barriers. Square has also added a Bitcoin wallet for merchants, allowing them to buy, sell, hold, or withdraw cryptocurrencies on the dashboard. Businesses that choose to participate can now automatically convert half of their daily revenue into Bitcoin, with a previous limit of 10%.
Businesses can manage all taxable Bitcoin transactions, including amounts, fees, dates, and times, in the Square mobile app. Market buying and selling records will be automatically included in the tax documents provided.
According to its survey, 12% of participating Square sellers use reserved sales for automatic Bitcoin conversion, 29.2% are exploring exchanging Bitcoin for business savings, and a whopping 89% plan to use Bitcoin as a long-term savings account.
