Grimes just dropped a truth bomb in Wired: she made more money from NFTs in 2021 than her entire music career combined. We're talking $6M from selling "War Nymph" digital art + music on Nifty Gateway—one music video alone went for almost $400K.
She's not bitter about the NFT collapse though. Grimes told Wired: "I'm sad crypto got polluted fast with people just chasing money." But she still believes in Web3 as a way to actually compensate digital artists. Beyond NFTs, she's been betting on metaverse projects, collaborated on Avalanche, and even let fans remix her voice with AI for a 50/50 royalty split.
The vibe? NFT trading volume is down 50% YTD and the hype is dead, but Grimes thinks when the dust settles, Web3 tools could genuinely help creators earn. Whether that actually happens is another story.
