Late at night when my mind is clearer, I want to write an article about blockchain games.

Since MapleStoryN, the overall trend of blockchain games has taken a sharp downturn.

Because everything that happened afterward almost proves one thing:

MapleStoryN is more like a nostalgia tool used by Nexon for "fundraising," rather than a blockchain game genuinely designed for players.

They use nostalgia to make a large number of old players willing to pay for memories, even in the face of rampant hacking and environmental chaos.

Honestly, players are very disappointed.

But it also proves one thing: the nostalgia market can be successful.

If the gaming experience can be well maintained, if the environment is fair and anti-cheat measures are effective, plus the technical advantages of blockchain itself, there is actually a chance to reignite the buzz.

Because on-chain games have several advantages that Web2 cannot achieve:

👉 Free trading of characters and items

👉 Transparency of transaction records and asset values

👉 Players can enter and exit at any time

👉 No longer fully controlled by a single platform

All these make it easier for players to get involved and also easier to withdraw.

More importantly, the development cost of blockchain games is actually much lower than creating a new AAA game, but the revenue and player base they can generate could be dozens or even hundreds of times greater than traditional blockchain games.

And the true value of old IP blockchain remakes is not just about attracting more players.

It also helps players naturally learn how blockchain works:

✅ Wallet usage

✅ Cross-chain

✅ Asset exchange

✅ Deposit and withdrawal processes

These are parts that outsiders originally find most repulsive and frightening.

But when these become "basic knowledge for playing games," players will no longer resist blockchain. Over time, this will lay a very important psychological and technical foundation for truly native blockchain games in the future.

So I have always believed that using "blockchain remakes" to bridge the stage where the technology is still immature and costs are still high is the most reasonable strategy for the current blockchain gaming industry.

It's just a pity that this time, the Classic Version of MapleStory chose to be released on Web2.

Although it's still about nostalgia, the aspects it can achieve are completely different.

I still believe that in the future, several truly blockbuster blockchain remake games will emerge.

The key depends on one thing: whether major game companies are willing to hand the market back to players, rather than excessively intervening in the game itself for the sake of in-game store profits.
