Mercari adds XRP as the third cryptocurrency in its trading service.
Mercari’s subsidiary, Mercoin, which is engaged in cryptocurrency-related services, announced that it will start handling XRP from April 24. Customers will be able to purchase XRP starting from 1 yen using charge balances from banks, sales proceeds from Mercari (Merpay balance), and Mercari points, allowing them to start trading with small amounts just like existing cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and ETH.
Melcoin launched Bitcoin (BTC) trading services in March 2023 and added support for Ethereum (ETH) in May 2024. By December 2024, just about 1 year and 9 months after its launch, the number of users surpassed 3 million, achieving the No. 1 ranking in new cryptocurrency account openings in the industry for 2024.
Notably, about 90% of the users of Mercari’s cryptocurrency trading service are first-time users of cryptocurrency trading, indicating success in attracting inexperienced users.
Mercoin has focused on designing services that are easy to use even for those inexperienced in cryptocurrency trading, centered around the concept of “easy and secure.” The recent addition of XRP aligns with the company’s goal of expanding trading opportunities for users by offering the fourth largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, following the existing two major coins, making cryptocurrency more accessible.
