The defense team of Roman Sturm wants to understand whether the U.S. Department of Justice is hiding any information that could help his case in the investigation of the Sturm case. In a recent letter, they mentioned that disclosures in another similar case have raised concerns about prosecutors misleading judges or manipulating legal procedures. The Sturm team stated that the government had key materials related to the core issue of this case—namely, whether non-custodial Crypto Assets mixers should be regarded as the coin transmission business referred to in 18 U.S.C. § 1960—before August 2023, but failed to provide these materials in a timely manner during Sturm's prosecution and first court appearance. This could constitute misconduct that violates the Brady principle, affecting Sturm's defense.
