Europe’s largest economy is starting to consider new moves. News from Germany reports that the state-backed KfW (Reconstruction Credit Institute) has released a report suggesting that tariffs should also be considered as a tool, citing the need to maintain so-called fair market competition.

To put it bluntly, German industry hasn’t been doing well these past two years. The report doesn’t blame everything on others; it admits there are plenty of domestic issues: exorbitant labor costs, excessive regulations, and painfully high energy bills. But then the discussion shifts to point fingers at the industrial policies of other countries.

Right now, there are basically two options on the table: either grit their teeth and push through internal reforms, or copy the protectionist trade practices from across the Atlantic. Judging by the current stance, they might try to do both. The trend of de-globalization is becoming more and more apparent, and everyone is starting to look out for their own interests.

Germany has started playing the protectionism game too. Interesting. Whatever happened to globalization? Now everyone is just doing their own thing like small-town test takers.

Germany is getting involved now too. Looks like globalization is really coming to an end—everyone is just thinking about how to protect their own turf.

Germany can't sit still anymore? It all comes down to being mentally broken by the American way, having a bunch of their own problems yet still trying to shift the blame—this script is all too familiar.

Germany has started doing this too. I knew this would happen. The globalization train is really about to derail; now everyone just wants to protect their own turf.

Germany is trying to follow the American playbook. They talk about fair competition, but in reality, it's just a trade war in disguise. Now they're starting to nitpick the details. Globalization really is coming to an end.

Germany is starting to play the tariff card too. This really might be the end of globalization. --- Ha, they've got a ton of their own problems but still want to shift the blame—classic. --- Once tariffs come into play, it's always regular people who suffer in the end. --- Europe is trying to learn from the US, but it just feels even more chaotic. --- Is internal reform really that hard? Why do they have to push the blame outward? --- Everyone is just looking out for their own interests—if everyone does this, the trade system collapsing would be well-deserved. --- German industry is definitely struggling, but tariffs aren't going to fix that. --- Oh my, is this the start of a new round of trade wars?
