Cryptocurrency trading has been a dilemma over the years. Do you want tight spreads, instant execution, and genuine liquidity? Then you have to go to centralized exchanges, at the cost of entrusting your assets' custody. Conversely, if you want to control your private keys independently and enjoy full ownership, you have to accept slower trade execution and high Gas fees.

You have to choose between speed and security, and between convenience and control. This dilemma has long stuck traders—should they prioritize trading efficiency or uphold the Web3 ethos of autonomy?

This fish and bear paw thing, to put it simply, is the exchanges harvesting our right to choose.

The dilemma between this fish and the bear's paw really torments me. I'm currently swinging wildly between the two options.

Ironically, people said the same thing ten years ago. And what happened? Centralized exchanges still collapsed, and self-custody was still hacked and looted. So there’s no such thing as choosing between the lesser of two evils; it’s just a matter of deciding which way to lose money [cold laugh].

If I had known it would be such a hassle, I wouldn't have been so obsessed with "true Web3" in the first place. Now I see others executing trades instantly on CEX, while I'm still waiting for Gas fees to drop...
