At 3 a.m., my phone suddenly vibrated—a voice message from a friend in Hangzhou. His tone was very urgent: "Sis, I have a 10,000 USDT account, fully allocated with 10x leverage to go long, but it only retraced 3%, and the account was wiped out. How is that possible?"

I looked at his trading record and saw he entered with 9,500 USDT full position, with no stop-loss set at all. This is a very typical mistake.

Many traders have a misconception—thinking that full position equals risk resistance. In fact, the opposite is true. Full position is like a double-edged sword; if used improperly, it can blow up faster than margin trading.

Why is full position prone to liquidation? On the surface, it seems to be a leverage issue, but the root cause lies in position sizing. For example, with a 1,000 USDT account, if you use 900 USDT to open a 10x leverage position, a 5% adverse move will directly liquidate the position. But if you only use 100 USDT with 10x leverage, it takes a 50% move to blow up. My friend put 95% of his principal into one position with 10x leverage, so any small retracement couldn't be withstanded.

So how can full position avoid liquidation? I summarized three principles, which I have been following for half a year. Not only did I avoid liquidation, but my account also doubled.

**Principle 1: No single position exceeds 20% of total funds**

With a 10,000 USDT account, invest at most 2,000 USDT at once. Even if you get the direction wrong and stop out with a 10% loss, you only lose 200 USDT, which is 2% of your total funds. The principal remains intact, leaving room for a comeback.

**Principle 2: Limit single loss to within 3% of total funds**

For example, with 2,000 USDT and 10x leverage, pre-calculate the stop-loss point to limit losses to 1.5%, which is a maximum loss of 300 USDT, exactly 3% of total funds. A few consecutive stop-outs won't damage your account.

**Principle 3: Stay out during sideways markets; only trade when a clear trend breaks out**

Enter only when the trend clearly breaks through. Avoid trading during choppy, ranging conditions. Once in, never add to your position. This helps prevent emotional trading and FOMO from leading you astray.

The true purpose of full position is not to gamble on direction but to leave buffer space. Its design is meant to give you breathing room amid volatility. But this requires light position sizing combined with strict risk management.

I have a follower who used to blow up his account every month. After applying these three principles, he grew his account from 5,000 USDT to 8,000 USDT in three months. He said something that left a deep impression on me: "I used to think full position was about gambling on big opportunities. Now I realize, full position is actually about staying alive steadily."

These seemingly simple three principles can turn trading from gambling into proper management. The hardest part of trading is not catching big trends but maintaining rationality and discipline in a restless market.

Wow, 9500U full position with no stop loss, this guy is just asking for death. However, the three principles discussed in this article do have some value, especially the phrase "stay alive steadily" really hit me. To be honest, I used to play like this too, almost lost my principal. I now strictly adhere to the 20% position limit, which has really saved me several times. But on the other hand, many people know these principles, but how many actually follow through?
