Solana Infrastructure Play: SOL Strategies Undergoes Major Leadership Transition as Leah Wald Departs

Strategic Shift Underway

The Solana ecosystem is witnessing a pivotal moment as SOL Strategies, a major player in on-chain treasury and infrastructure solutions, announces a significant executive transition. Leah Wald, who has served as CEO and Director since joining the company in July 2024, is stepping away from her role effective October 1, 2025. In her departure announcement shared on social media, Wald expressed her intention to pursue opportunities within AI and fintech innovation, signaling a strategic pivot toward emerging technology frontiers.

The timing of this leadership change coincides with SOL Strategies’ rapid ascent within the Solana blockchain ecosystem. During her tenure, Wald orchestrated the company’s transformation from Cypherpunk Holdings into a specialized Solana infrastructure provider—a rebrand that culminated in a NASDAQ cross-listing and the development of a pioneering Solana treasury model. Under her stewardship, the firm positioned itself as an institutional-grade infrastructure backbone for blockchain finance.

Michael Hubbard Takes the Helm as Interim Leadership

Following Wald’s departure, Michael Hubbard, the company’s Chief Strategy Officer and Director, has been named Interim CEO. Hubbard brings deep-rooted credibility within the Solana ecosystem, having founded Laine, a Solana validator, back in 2021. That venture grew to manage over 5.5 million SOL in delegated stake before being acquired by SOL Strategies earlier this year.

Hubbard’s vision for the company extends beyond traditional validator operations. The interim leader has championed innovative ideas, including the potential on-chain tokenization of SOL Strategies’ equity—a move that could reshape how institutional stakeholders engage with the platform. His leadership is expected to emphasize infrastructure expansion and deeper integration within Solana’s growing validator network.

Why This Matters for Solana’s Infrastructure Layer

SOL Strategies operates at a critical juncture in Solana’s infrastructure development. The company is no longer dabbling in broad crypto treasury strategies; instead, it’s specializing as a dedicated Solana-centric validator and infrastructure provider serving institutional clients. Recent achievements underscore this momentum: the firm now manages over CAD $1 billion in delegated assets, bolstered by a partnership with Ark Invest that has enhanced its credibility within traditional finance circles.

Currently, SOL Strategies holds approximately 435,064 SOL tokens, representing a ~$89 million position at current market valuations. With Solana (SOL) trading at $141.40, the company’s treasury reflects substantial skin-in-the-game alignment with the network’s success. This treasury position, combined with its validator operations, positions SOL Strategies as a structural component of Solana’s economic model.

The Search for Permanent Leadership

While Hubbard stabilizes operations during this transition period, SOL Strategies has launched an executive search for a permanent CEO, supported by an external recruitment firm. The board is seeking a leader capable of navigating the next phase of infrastructure maturation—one who can balance aggressive validator growth, institutional onboarding, and potential tokenization initiatives. Until that appointment is finalized, Hubbard is expected to maintain focus on infrastructure expansion and consolidating the company’s position within Solana’s validator ecosystem.
