Walrus is a decentralized storage platform deployed on the Sui blockchain, primarily providing low-cost and censorship-resistant data storage capabilities for Web3 applications.

In terms of core technology, it combines erasure coding and blob storage schemes. Simply put, large files are fragmented and stored across nodes worldwide. Even if some nodes go offline, data can be quickly recovered. This design directly reduces storage costs while ensuring system uptime and data security—more than enough to replace traditional centralized cloud services.

From an application perspective, Walrus is especially popular in fields such as: high-definition media storage for NFTs (finally a place for large high-quality images), hosting datasets for AI models, game asset distribution, and encrypted message backups for social dApps. Compared to other storage solutions, Walrus benefits from Sui’s high-throughput network, offering faster read/write speeds, more flexible pricing plans, and support for variable storage durations. These features collectively significantly lower the barrier to entry for developers.

The WAL token plays a crucial role. It serves as a tool for paying storage fees—creating real demand—and also supports holders in staking to earn rewards and participating in community governance. Through voting, holders can decide how the protocol upgrades and how resources are allocated, making the ecosystem development more democratic.

As the Sui ecosystem’s staked amount continues to grow, Walrus is being increasingly chosen by dApps as their storage layer. The potential in this sector is still expanding.

Wow, Sui's storage solution is so powerful, NFT image hosting finally has a way out.

The erasure coding scheme sounds good, but it depends on the audit report. Is there a potential risk of re-entrancy attacks in the node downtime recovery mechanism?

Wow, finally someone has fixed the NFT image issue. No more blurry pictures to look at.

Oops, Sui's recent moves are quite impressive, feeling like storage costs are directly halved. --- NFT storage finally no longer a worry, Walrus was long overdue. --- Staking for yields is really attractive, just not sure how the liquidity of WAL is. --- Decentralized storage sounds similar, but the key is whether the ecosystem can keep up. --- Erase coding is basically a distributed version of RAID, to put it simply. --- Sui's lock-up surge is so strong, Walrus catching the train has a bit of luck involved. --- Lower barriers for developers is a selling point, but how many projects can really be used? --- Fast read/write speeds really hit the pain point; previously, IPFS was too slow. --- Regarding WAL token governance rights, it feels like the old trick of token power reform. --- Image storage is a real necessity; previously, wasting money on Arweave.

The Sui ecosystem is revitalizing again, and Walrus seems to have truly addressed some pain points... but the WAL token needs to increase in value first. --- HD NFT storage finally has a solution; the previous projects storing images really caused a lot of headaches. --- Wait, can this thing really replace AWS? That might be a bit of an overstatement. --- Relying on Sui's high throughput is definitely a plus; it all depends on whether the ecosystem can truly take off. --- Staking for profit is a familiar routine; it still depends on when real demand will come. --- I just want to know when it will be available; right now, it still feels like a theoretical concept. --- The name Walrus... is a bit outrageous haha. --- Decentralized storage has never really taken off; I hope this time it's not just another concept. --- Fast read/write speeds are a selling point, but can the costs really be cheaper than centralized solutions? --- Choosing the storage layer for dApps depends on the support from future developers.

Erasure coding is truly awesome. Dispersed data storage means no one can tamper with it. This is the true way Web3 should be.

NFT image storage is finally no longer a worry; such a solution should have existed long ago.
