We tend to think of data as a passive entity—stacked in spreadsheets, sleeping on servers, waiting to be read, processed, or invoked. They are silent materials.

But what if data itself could act?

Walrus Protocol is experimenting with a new approach on the Sui chain. It turns data into programmable objects, giving these seemingly inert pieces of information the ability to act proactively. In other words, data is upgraded from passive "records" to active "participants" capable of doing things on their own.

Where is the core? Walrus allows data objects to integrate smart contract logic. A piece of data is no longer just a fragment of information but an intelligent entity that can perceive its environment, execute commands, and interact with other objects.

For example, weather data can be programmed to be smarter—when the temperature soars to 38 degrees, it automatically triggers a claim signal to the related agricultural insurance contract, all without manual intervention. Similarly, copyrighted music can actively recognize when it is used in commercial scenarios and instantly settle micro-payments. Data transforms from passive "resources" into actively initiating "agents."

This changes the logic of application development. Developers' work is no longer just writing data processing flows but more about building an "ecosystem" where these capable digital objects collaborate and interact. The $WAL token acts as the universal fuel for this ecosystem, driving these actions and measuring the flow of value.

On a larger scale, when data generally gains this ability to act, our current "process-centric" digital economy architecture will gradually evolve into a complex network formed by the interaction of numerous "autonomous intelligent agents." The seed planted by Walrus Protocol now may be the initial vitality needed for the future smooth operation of an intelligent digital society.

Will the data run on its own? Sounds a bit sci-fi, but this approach is indeed different. I like the example of automatic music settlement; finally, there's something that can speak for the creators. I just wonder if the Sui chain can handle so many autonomous agents running simultaneously, or if it's just another overhyped promise. How is the economic model of $WAL designed? Could it be just another scheme to harvest users' gains?

Will the data move on its own? It sounds a bit sci-fi, but automatic contract execution definitely sparks the imagination.

Sounds impressive, but isn't it just another hype wrapped in a "revolutionary vision"? There's always a lower point waiting for me.

Will the data work on its own? The logic is indeed perfect, but can it really be implemented?

This idea is quite interesting, having data do the legwork? Sounds like science fiction. Damn, is this really going to change the development paradigm, or is it just another narrative hype? The example of agricultural insurance sounds good, but how smooth will the actual implementation be? Autonomous data execution sounds great, but what if a bug occurs, who takes the blame? It's basically pushing the logic from the application layer down to the data layer; essentially, it's still programmers writing rules, just selling it from a different angle. Where is the value support point of WAL? It's not very clear. How can we ensure the ecosystem can really operate? If data can truly operate autonomously like this, will DeFi become a mess? The complexity of on-chain interactions is too high, brother. But Sui's chain is currently experiencing a burst of various creative ideas, which is quite interesting.

Can data act autonomously? Sounds awesome, but can it really be implemented? It sounds very sci-fi—data running business logic on its own. If this really becomes widespread, it feels like the entire development paradigm would be turned upside down. By the way, there are so many new projects on Sui. How reliable is Walrus? Has anyone used it?

Will the data run errands on its own? Is this thing really reliable?
