Data is the most valuable asset today, but unfortunately, most people have almost no control over their own data. Centralized cloud services can review, delete, or even resell your information at will. Privacy breaches have long become commonplace news.

The Walrus protocol aims to fundamentally change this situation. It is built on the Sui blockchain and restores data sovereignty to users through decentralized storage and privacy technologies.

From a technical perspective, Walrus uses erasure coding to split files into multiple data fragments dispersed across global nodes. Even if one-third of the nodes go offline, data can still be recovered 100%. The beauty of this architecture is that—no single entity can censor or delete content. Sensitive files, creative works, and trade secrets stored there are permanently preserved, and no one can tamper with them.

Privacy is also handled thoroughly. The protocol natively supports access control, allowing you to set permissions so that only specific addresses can read the data. This is crucial for Web3 creators: NFT art, music, videos, and other digital assets stored on Walrus can avoid the risk of delisting from centralized platforms and also lock in copyright and privacy.

In terms of cost, it’s another highlight. Traditional cloud storage charges exorbitantly per GB per day, but Walrus’s pricing model makes storage affordable for everyone. As a result, true data autonomy is no longer a luxury but accessible to all.

Oh brother, finally someone cares about data sovereignty. Those cloud services before were really outrageous, deleting your data at will. Real permanent storage? Sounds good, but it depends on how long Walrus can last. Web3 creators will definitely love this; they no longer have to worry about their works being taken down. The key is that the pricing has to be truly affordable, or else it's just a bunch of empty talk.

Hmm... It sounds ideal, but is the Sui ecosystem really reliable?

Sounds good, but how many people can actually use it... Feels like it's just another hype.
