Michael Saylor-led Bitcoin asset management firm Strategy has introduced a new valuation metric. Announced on January 18th via the X platform, this metric quantifies a company’s Bitcoin holdings to enable institutional investors to more accurately assess the true value of companies holding Bitcoin assets.
A New Standard for Valuing Companies Based on Net Bitcoin Holdings
According to Chaitanya Jain, head of Strategy’s Bitcoin product strategy, this metric goes beyond simply comparing the amount of Bitcoin held. It provides a comprehensive assessment of a company’s net Bitcoin position, designed to give a clear picture of how strong a company’s actual Bitcoin stance is at a glance.
Calculation Method of the BTC Grade Indicator
The indicator is calculated using the following formula: (Bitcoin holdings - debt - preferred stock + USD holdings) / market capitalization. This calculation subtracts a company’s total debt and preferred stock obligations, adds cash holdings, and then divides by the total market cap to derive the company’s net Bitcoin ratio. As a result, investors can comparatively evaluate each company’s Bitcoin exposure, clearly highlighting the actual strengths of companies pursuing Bitcoin-centric strategies, including Michael Saylor.
