Team Baiko, a key figure at the Ethereum Foundation, has recently decided to significantly shift his focus. In a statement released via X platform on January 10th, he announced that he will step away from L1 development work and dedicate himself to cutting-edge research in Ethereum applications.

From L1 to Applications, Ethereum’s Focus Shift

Baiko’s decision reflects the maturity stage of the Ethereum ecosystem. He emphasized, “The protocol is now approaching its final stage,” and highlighted that the focus should now shift from technical fundamentals to practical usability. He believes that Ethereum’s potential as a permissionless, scalable, and verifiable “world computer” is just beginning to be concretely realized.

Challenges in Cryptoeconomic Maturity of the Protocol

As Ethereum becomes technically mature, remaining challenges include in-depth research into cryptoeconomics and expanding application areas. Baiko, who will continue to serve as an advisor to the Ethereum Foundation, plans to support organizational structure and ecosystem collaboration, indicating a strategy to maintain a balance between foundational technology and application research.

ACDE Leadership Reshuffle and Strengthening of the Fund Committee Organization

Meanwhile, there has been personnel adjustment within ACDE (Cryptography Development Association), which handles cryptographic technology discussions for Ethereum development. It was agreed that Ansgar will extend his interim term as ACDE chair, and Baiko will actively participate until a long-term plan is established. This is seen as a strategic decision by the Fund Committee to maintain continuity and expertise in the cryptography field.
