The world's oldest turtle falls victim to a crypto scam.

Jonathan is an approximately 193-year-old turtle living on Saint Helena Island in the South Atlantic. It is considered the oldest known land animal in the world.

On Wednesday, an account on X impersonated Jonathan's veterinarian and announced the animal's death.

"It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our dear Jonathan, the oldest living land animal in the world, who peacefully passed away today on Saint Helena. At over 193 years old, this gentle giant has survived empires, wars, and generations of humans,"
posted Joe Hollins's account, before calling for crypto donations.

Meanwhile, a cryptocurrency named Jonathan saw its value skyrocket by +1000%, with a market cap rising to $380,000.
