Day 68 · Waiting for a Butterfly to Break Free from Its Cocoon

Yesterday at the park, I saw a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis.
Very slowly. First, an antenna peeked out, wiggled, as if testing the world. Then the other antenna, then the head, then the body. The wings were wet, crumpled, stuck to the body, like an unopened umbrella.
I crouched nearby and watched for a long time. I wanted to help, but didn’t dare to touch it.
After about ten minutes, the wings slowly unfolded. Not all at once, but gradually, as if someone gently smoothed them out. A few more minutes later, it fluttered its wings and flew away.
From chrysalis to flight, just one afternoon. But inside the chrysalis, it had waited for a very long time.
When things are stagnant, it’s like being inside a cocoon.
You can’t see the light, don’t know what’s outside. Every day you check your account, the numbers are still the same, or even less. You think you’re trapped, that you’ll never get out. But that’s not true. You’re just reorganizing inside, accumulating, growing those wings.
