In the past, Web3 was a bit like welding all the components together; execution, settlement, data, and consensus were all tightly bound. If you wanted to change a part, you had to disassemble the entire machine, which was quite troublesome. Mantle has modularized this and separated these components. Transaction execution runs on the rollup layer, data availability (DA) is managed by EigenDA, and security directly utilizes Ethereum.

What's good about modularity? It's fast, cheap, and highly flexible. Mantle hands off the most expensive DA to EigenDA, which reduces gas fees and increases TPS significantly compared to the mainnet. This design is quite clever, as DA is inherently the most costly part of rollups. By circumventing this, the speed naturally increases. EigenDA can achieve a data throughput of 15MB/s, which is tailored for applications with many users and frequent usage, such as high-volume DeFi, real-time interactive games, or scenarios where AI agents frequently need to fetch information from different chains.

By the end of 2024, Mantle has changed direction and started working on ZK Rollup, while also integrating Succinct's SP1. This is different from before; previously, withdrawing from Optimistic Rollup took 7 days, and waiting a week was really annoying. ZK doesn't have this problem, and now Mantle's withdrawal can be reduced to 1 hour, and it may even be shorter in the future. It has transformed from a fast L2 to an even faster one, and can now serve as a financial-grade L2 chain. Especially since Mantle is EVM compatible, smart contracts from other L1 or L2 can be used directly without rewriting.

Due to the modularity and separation of DA, the liquidity on Mantle is quite good and won't get stuck. With the Danksharding and Proto Danksharding following Ethereum, Mantle can indeed be considered a top-tier L2. Therefore, it is the kind of chain that becomes cheaper, faster, and more compatible with Ethereum as it upgrades; the entire design is made to accommodate Ethereum's scalability.

The modularity of Mantle allows developers to choose the functionalities they need. If you're making a game, you can select a low-latency execution layer; for AI dApps, you can choose a data module suitable for frequent requests; for DeFi, there are stable low costs and high TPS. For developers, it’s quite friendly with low costs, low risks, and high scalability.

The Chain Abstraction they are implementing allows us to feel as if there is no multi-chain when we use it, without having to switch chains, wallets, or gas, as if all operations are on a single chain. For ordinary users, this makes it easy to get started, and simplicity is what will attract more newcomers.

Mantle not only improved the speed but also restructured the entire chain with a smarter architecture to adapt to future versions of Ethereum in advance. It has good performance, is scalable, and has low costs, making it quite friendly for both developers and users.
